I have been away too long! I had a birfday last week - my fourth one! - and Mama made me a special meat-treat dinner that was sooooo yummy. I didn't even hafta share with my sistercat, Isabella!
Speaking of Isa, we have been very worried about her, because she losed so many pounds. We didn't notice because her furs are so fluffy. But, Mom took her to the vet office where I go and they weighed her and she had to take tests, too! They said her thyroid is hyper and her kidneys are tired. She hasta take medicines, but I'm not so sure... My medicines taste ICKY. But, Isa gets tuna juices and meats with her medicines in it and she doesn't seem to mind one bit! It didn't seem fair to me, so, I snuck behind Mama and I ate her tuna treats right up! TWICE! Mama was soooooo mad. But, I felt better. I think it evened the score! A little.
Mama called the EMERGENCY Vet place and asked them if I would be ok since I eated Isa's medicines along with the tuna (I guess Mom wasn't bluffing!) and they said it was OK. One time wouldn't hurt. WHEW! I was glad. I didn't wanna hafta go to the vet office.
I hafta go to the vet office this week, tho. Mama said they are going to give me something to make me really sleepy and then, when I wake up, I will have clean teeth and little bumpies in my mouf will be gone. I didn't like the way I felt last time after I woke up. But, Mama said that she would be right there to get me and we would go home and snuggle. I guess that's OK.
This weekend was really fun. My Grama came to visit and she wore her silky softy nightgown and let me sit on her lap and have the softness on my belly while she rubbed me on top. It felt soooo good. I love how my Grama talks to me. She uses her funny, squeaky voice that has lots of loves in it that I can feel and they feel sooo good. I am always sad when she leaves. Sometimes, I sit and look out the window, thinking that maybe she just went to the store for brown cookies or more of that red juice that she and Mama like to drink. But, I usually know that she won't be back the same day because Mama is sad. Mama said that we will see her again soon, tho. Next time, at Grandma's house! I love going there. She has a pond... with FROGS in it!
*yaaaaaaaawn*
Well, I'm kinda tired after writing all of this. I'm going to get back to my nap.
I love you, my friends and family. I'm sorry that I was away for so long!
Love,
Melvino

A Very Special Day...
Today is my two-year anniversary of being with my Mama. She says it's a pretty special day and she gave me a special Himalayan Dog Chew to try! Ohhhh YUM! It's yak cheese! There's nothing I love more than cheese! Well, that's not true... I love my Mama more than cheese.
Mama says it's strange to think that I've only been with her for 2 of my 4 years, she says that it seems that I've always been a part of her life - she can't imagine her life without me. I feel that same way. I can't imagine being away from my Mama, although I do love it when we travel about to friend's houses!
We have had a lovely few days of sunshine, here and there. Oh, how I love soaking up sunbeams. They make my everything feel good!
Mama says the Weatherpeople are talking about SNOW this week. Goodness! If it does snow, I hope it doesn't hurt all of the tender little green plants coming up outside. I've been keeping an eye on them every day and they seem to be ready for warm weather, not freezy snows! Maybe Mama will cover some things up, just like she does me when I'm chilly?
It's been a quiet past few weeks around our house. Mama hurt her back (slipping in the garden on that icky, slimy mud that gets stuck on my paws - I tell you, it's NO GOOD!) and it's taking a long time for her to heal. She's spending a lot more time than usual laying down and while I sure do like her being home with me, I don't like it when she isn't feeling well. I worry.
Then, yesterday, my "forefinger claw" got stuck in the metal grate on the back door when I was alerting Mama that I was ready to come inside and that nasty metal tore some of my claw right off! Ohhh how it hurt. I licked and licked and licked to try and lick the ouch away, but, it didn't work. Mama soaked my paw in something a little stinky and it did feel a little better after that, but it was still bleeding a bit.
One time, I ripped something Mama called a "dew claw" clean off my paw, when I was playing with friends. man, that really HURT! But, before I knew it, I was all better and I didn't have to wear my special shoe anymore. I'm sure that this ouch will heal even faster.
I hope all of the ouches of all of the peoples and pets in the world heal quickly and that we can all get back to enjoying many sunbeam naps and snuggleloves with our friends and loved ones...
Love,
Melvino

I Can Smell It!
Can you?
It's Springtime! I can smell that it's on the way VERY soon.
Mom bought a hyacinth at her favorite grocery store the other day and it stunk up the whole house with it's pretty purple blossoms! She loves the smell, but it's too strong for me. It makes my eyes water! So, she took it to her office. Thanks, Mom.
Last weekend, I helped Mom rake the yard of all of the fall leaves that have been out there so long. Personally, I think they were nice. I prefer walking on leaves rather than the mud underneath! Man, my paws got SO muddy! She made me take a BATH when we got inside. I didn't much like that. But, I LOVE the special massage that Mom gives me at bathtime, so, I guess it's ok.
We were soooo tired after working in the yard all day. It was nice to snuggle up and have a rest that evening.
Do any of you have little green shoots coming out of the ground in your yards? We do! Mom says the Day Lilies are starting to show! They are so beautiful and orange in the summertime. It will be a while before we see flowers, but, it's nice to know that they are on their way!
Personally, I can't wait for warmer, drier days. I love having my pick of warm sunbeams to lay under.
I hope that all of you, my friends, are well and hopeful, looking forward to fun in the warmer days ahead and grateful for the signs of spring greeting us already.
Love,
Melvino

Uhoh...
My sister got a haircut yesterday and she is NOT happy about it.
Personally, I think she looks pretty cute in her little, fluffy boots! Don't tell her that, though. She's GRUMPY.
Speaking of boots, Mom got me some new winter wear to keep me toasty warm on our cold evening walks. What do you think?
Oops! Mom caught me napping! Oh, well...
I better run. It's almost dinnertime.
Hope you all had a great weekend. I sure did!
XOXO,
Melvino

The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year...
We had a wonderful Turkey Day Weekend with Grandma B, who came to visit from over the hills and brought plenty of turkey snacks with her! Yay!
Melvino adores his Grandma B and loves it when she decides to slow down and spend some snuggle time on the couch with him. He like to curl up in "the hole" (the crook of her knees when she's laying on her side) and it takes a great degree of strength to pry his furry little body out of that faux-fur and velvet blanky-lined sleeping spot. It seems that he somehow makes his 20# body 4-5x heavier to dissuade the offending party from disturbing his toasty resting spot. Luckily, that didn't happen much, as we relaxed and napped most of the weekend.
Ahhhh... This is the life!
I somehow ended up with a cold, but was thankful that my symptoms didn't hit until my first day back to work. It's not easy talking on the phone all day with a frog voice, but I would have hated screwing up my Quality Time with my Mom by being sickly! Still... I'd much rather be at home in the covers with this guy:
I keep watching the weather portion of our nightly news, secretly hoping for a chance of snow (and a snow day! Yay!) Those fluffy white blankets remind me of my childhood near the mountains, where every winter we waited for the hills to cake with snow so that we could go sledding. My fondest memories were of the lights from town illuminating the dark, cloudy sky with the soft pink glow of reflected light. There was nothing like a quiet nighttime walk in the stillness of that beautiful snow-covered landscape. Everything seemed so peaceful, so still while snowflakes melted on my hot tongue, as I gazed into the heavens. Ahhhh...
All of a sudden, I'm seeing the appeal of snow globes! Perhaps I should work on recapturing that peaceful bliss without the snow. Just thinking about that did my heart good. :)
What are some of your favorite winter memories?
Stay snuggled up, friends! We'll talk again soon...
Love,
Jen and Melvino

Maiden Voyage... We're So Glad To Be Here!
Hello, friends!
It's that time of year again in Portland...soggy, soppy and grey. The last few beautiful, gemmy colored leaves falling from the trees as I drive to work in the morning.
I adore the pumpkin spice, crisp temperature and the special times with family and friends this time of year. But truthfully, Melvino and I are not much into the damp darkness that comes with these Pacific Northwest fall and winters. I mean, come on, who wants muddy paws every time they go potty!? SHEESH!
We're always looking for new ways to stir up fun and enjoy our time until the incomparable sunny Portland summer returns and we meet up with our friends at the dog park! That said, this blog has been a long time coming, after many months of bookmarking your blogs and checking in to read your heartfelt stories and see your wonderful pictures. I am so excited to become part of this wonderful, supportive community of pug, frenchie, bostie, and all-around sweet pup loving folks. Your hearts have come through so clearly in your writing and it's drawn me in in ways that I find difficult to express with words (but, I'm going to try! :) ) So, with that, THANK YOU for stopping by and "Yay!" for new friends and neighbors!
How is the weather where you live? Do you pups with pink bellies like Melvino have your sweaters ready to go?
Are your snuggle blankets ready for those blustery evenings?
Wherever you are, whatever the weather, we hope you have a wonderful day! We're so excited to be here and look forward to growing many wonderful friendships with all of you, furry and not-so-furry alike.
Love,
Jen and Melvino
